When she was initially inspired by the shadows she observed in the grasses of trees, she worked for months to develop a technique which did not depict the object in a 2D image. The subject is a mirror of itself, while the canvas is carrying the painterly interpretation of the object, particularly when it's a live object or perishable for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is extremely ephemeral the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only piece of her art to survive is the photo. Both photographic and painting methods are tightly interwoven that the end result is an unflat, 2-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in specific areas like near the eyes or hair. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painting into the environment around her and allows them to interact within the context of their own. This eliminates the distinctions between photography, painting, and installation.
